– mineral reunion –

mineral reunion - photo by: ryan sterritt

i went and saw mineral last night at the masquerade in atlanta. they rocked it out for sure, i couldn’t believe they sounded so good after not touring since 1997! i still have vivid memories of seeing them play in tampa and gainesville, florida on their farewell tour with the get up kids and jejune.

although they definitely looked older, mineral’s music still held up and sounded amazing live. it was exciting to see them play songs from endserenading as well. they had broken up before the album was released in 1998 and did not play those songs live back in the day.

on a side note, hot water music played upstairs at the masquerade last night as well. i was able to check them out after mineral played. i don’t know much of their music after their first few albums though, so i didn’t stay too long. it still felt like a fun florida-hardcore evening seeing those two bands play!

belle & sebastian at the tabernacle - photo by: ryan sterritt

belle & sebastian played an amazing show last night at the tabernacle! i forgot how great they were live and how personable stuart murdoch was. they recently recorded their new album in atlanta, so stuart had a lot to say about the atl. that included discussing both the atlanta streetcar and beltline, as well bashing the braves for moving to the burbs, which was subsequently followed by piazza, new york catcher. classic!

their setlist was top notch! they played songs from pretty much every album and also hit a couple of their eps, with lots of old favorites and deep cuts in the mix. they also played a few new songs, including a dance track about sylvia plath that was great.

hopefully it doesn’t take them another 11 years to come back to atlanta!

belle & sebastian are playing tonight at the the tabernacle, wahoo!!! we are big fans and it’s been 11 years since they played atlanta, so we are thrilled.

so far they’ve had some great looking set lists in miami and orlando, so i have high hopes for tonight. they’ve been playing plenty of old tunes for people like me!

there are tickets available, if interested. check out the rest of their tour dates.

– atlanta braves + weezer = summer fun –

atlanta braves + weezer = summer fun - photo by: ryan sterritt

tonights atlanta braves game had a pretty awesome promotion, a free weezer concert at turner field after the game! that’s one of the better ballpark promotions i’ve heard of, much more fun than a foam finger or bobble head.

i haven’t listened to weezer much since their green album, however the blue album and pinkerton still hold a special place for me. plus the chance to see them in combination with a braves game was too hard to pass up.

older weezer fans were definitely not let down. the setlist included early hits like my name is jonas, say it ain’t so, the sweater song & buddy holly, as well as later hits like island in the sun and hash pipe. the stage was set up around 2nd base and people who paid extra were able to go down on the field for the show, something i did not do. a ton of people stuck around for the show and there was a nice summer breeze, so it turned out to be a very fun evening. on a side note, rivers cuomo commented that they had spent the previous day in peachtree city visiting his grandparents and that his mom was from their. i never knew he had georgia ties. i also didn’t realize that rivers daughter was now playing keyboards for the band! or maybe this was just a special show.

– outkast #atlast –

after playing 40+ festival dates without hitting atlanta, outkast finally announced a homecoming show at centennial olympic park this fall! they’ve been touring to “celebrate the 20th anniversary of their unique and influential sound.” we were lucky enough to get tickets this morning and are totally pumped.

not only did the show sell out in under an hour, outkast also added a second show and sold that out immediately. quite crazy! centennial olympic park can hold 40,000 people for concerts, so its impressive they sold out two shows so quickly.
