– delia’s chicken sausage stand –

i recently tried delia’s chicken sausage stand for the first time and loved it! this east atlanta restaurant is the new adventure of delia champion, who was the mastermind behind the flying biscuit cafe.

delia’s is known for its slingers and sliders, which are both very tasty. the slingers are their signature creation, which consist of a jumbo homemade local sausage link on a holeman & finch hoagie roll with various toppings. i went with the gunn slinger, which had guacamole, salsa, “comeback” sauce and jalapeƱos. for non-meat eaters, you can order the slingers vegetarian-style.

i also tried the double d delight slider, which was great, although completely over the top. it had a grilled krispy kreme donut as the bun, with chicken sausage patties and cherry cream cheese in the middle. next time i would go without the cream cheese though. for those of you who remember mulligan’s in oakhurst, it was reminiscent of their luther burger, which was a bacon cheeseburger on a grilled krispy kreme.

although i didn’t try one, i’ve heard great things about their cake milkshakes as well. they are handmade with ice-cream and either a piece of cake or a cupcake thrown in, depending on the flavor of the week. sounds amazing!

delia’s hand-crafted sausage uses locally sourced chicken and spices and is made in small batches to ensure quality. they are open all night on friday and saturday’s and serve breakfast anytime as well, which is perfect for east atlanta!

check out their menu!

– latte art –

i appreciate coffee shops that take the extra effort to create artwork with their coffee drinks. here are some photos from dancing goats, octane coffee and west egg cafe. octane even hosts latte art competitions called thursday night throw down!

– archers of loaf –

talk about a classic show! i just got back from seeing archers of loaf on their reunion tour at the earl!! what’s even better, the opening act birdsmell and freinds, turned out to be band of horses!!! how amazing is that? i guess ben bridwell has played under that name before, but seeing these two bands in such a small sweaty venue was quite the memorable concert!

archers were amazing! they were super loud and sounded great, it was as if they hadn’t take a thirteen year hiatus. the setlist was pulled from their entire catalogue; including all four albums and various eps & singles. my highlights were web in front, wrong, plumb line, might, harnessed in slums, dead red eyes, well, they were all pretty awesome. screaming along to web in front with a bunch of sweaty people made me feel like i was in high school again!

birdsmell and friends, aka band of horses, were also great! they played as a stripped down three-piece but still sounded awesome, i think ben bridwell’s brother might have even been on bass. the setlist was a mix of songs from their three albums and a few covers. i know ben bridwell is a fan of the loaf, archers bassist matt gentling has even toured as a member of band of horses, but it’s still awesome he played a secret show just to share the stage with them!

on a side note, i’m glad archers opted to play a few nights in a small venue rather than playing a larger venue for one night. such a small setting was perfect for them. the show i saw was the third of three sold out shows at the earl and it wouldn’t have been nearly as fun in a big venue.

ps…it’s funny, the last time i saw archers of loaf was also a pretty epic show for me. it was on their farewell tour in 1998 and they played with built to spill, creeper lagoon and 764-hero at the metro in chicago. classic!

– on top of stone mountain –

gub’s dad and his wife peggy came to visit and we went on an adventure with clementine to the top of stone mountain! she didn’t seem to mind the skyride up, however it was her first experience with real wind. she didn’t quite know what to think of it, although she definitely looked awesome on the moon-like surface on the mountain top!

it was very overcast and surprisingly cool on top of the mountain. with the wind it felt like a late fall day, which was crazy for atlanta in the middle of july. the view wasn’t as impressive as clear days, however we were up in middle of the clouds with them moving right across us on the mountain. that was exciting!

– fried okra & bbq –

we recently fried up some okra from our garden and it was delicious! we ate the tasty treats with ribs and collards from maddy’s and cole slaw from chik-fil-a. it was a hodge podge of our favorite southern delights!

fyi, maddy’s collard greens recently won best overall at the east lake farmers market collard greens cook-off and they are pretty awesome!

– elf market –

the east lake farmers market is up and running again on saturdays from 9am to 1pm. it’s open through october and can be found at the corner of 2nd avenue and hosea williams drive in the east lake/kirkwood area. the market features lots of local farmers selling fruit, vegetables, eggs, salsas and all sorts of other stuff.

with tomato season finally upon us, we picked up some beautiful heirloom tomatoes from ora farms on our last trip to the market. we grabbed an early girl and an orange blossom. check out our july 4th blog post for a great tomato pie recipe we used with these wonderful tomatoes!

we also grabbed a couple of lemon cucumbers, which we had never tried before. these were quite interesting. the inside was slightly sweeter than normal cucumbers with a little softer texture, but the outside texture was very course and bumpy with small black seeds and they were the size of lemons. they were odd, but worth trying.

this saturday is the 2nd annual peachapalooza at the east lake farmers market. it’s a juried cooking competition celebrating all things peach! stop by to sample some amazing peach creations!
