– living walls: doodles, gaia & nanook –

here is another living walls mural in downtown decatur. it’s on the back side of twain’s brew pub by artists doodles, gaia & nanook. gaia & nanook have been well covered on our blog, so here is some other great street art from doodles.

check out our previous coverage of living walls work by gaia & nanook, plf, ltrs, peeve & blief, gaia & nanook, jaz, bruno, niznik & tyndell, greg mike, marco sueño and trek matthews and this great google map of the 2011 living walls murals.

– living walls: decatur –

downtown decatur was covered with living walls murals in 2011. there were six pieces installed in all, which is quite impressive for such a small area. this first mural can be found on the side of squash blossom in the decatur square. it’s by gaia & nanook, the same duo who did the sunrise on edgewood piece we covered a few weeks ago.

– where the wild things were –

acclaimed children’s author and illustrator maurice sendak passed away today. he was best known for where the wild things are & in the night kitchen, classics that most children of our generation grew up with.

for an amazing remembrance of sendak, albeit super sad, head to npr’s fresh air. the program looks back at various interviews terry gross had with sendak over the years along with links to the original interviews.

maurice will be missed, but at least his stories live on.

here is another graffiti-style living walls piece. it’s by atlanta-based street artist plf and can be found in oakhurst village. it’s on the facade of the old mulligan’s building, which was home to the ultimate hamdog and luther burger. right now it houses the oakhurst church, which seems like a strange place for a hip living walls piece.

the work features intertwining tubes, which is common in plf’s work. here is a video of his graffiti work in progress!

here is another kirkwood living walls piece; who would have thought our little neighborhood would have such hip street art? this one is a series of work by ltrs, peeve & blief at the corner of la france street & arizona ave ne near the arizona pub. it’s more old-school graffiti/tag style, which is cool to see. i couldn’t find much more information on the artists though or other works by them for that matter.

you can find this really amazing/huge living walls piece on the side of the u*space gallery in the old fourth ward. it’s really close to the jaz painting we wrote about a couple of days ago.

the title of the mural is the sunrise of edgewood and it was created by new york-based street artist gaia & baltimore-based nanook. it’s part of the 2012 living walls campaign. here’s other great work by gaia and nanook and also an article on the production of this mural.

here is another great living walls piece in atlanta. this large mural can be found on the side of the sound table at the corner of edgewood and boulevard in the old fourth ward. it’s by jaz, a buenos arises-based street artist. here are some other amazing murals he’s done around latin america.

– living walls: paris on ponce –

here is another living walls mural in atlanta. you can find this gem on the back side of paris on ponce. it’s a collaborative mural by seattle-based christopher derek bruno, florida-based benjamin niznik & atlanta-based drew tyndell. i don’t know much about these guys, but i really like this mural! it’s tough catching the whole mural when there aren’t any u-haul trucks parked in front though.

– inman totem pole –

i’ve been working out of inman park this week and drove by this crazy wooden sculpture. it looks like someone carved themselves a totem pole instead of having a tree removed. clever!
