– nursery transformation: week ten –

we’ve been so busy being showered and transforming that we’re super late on our weekly nursery transformation post… sorry!

anyways, we are still playing around with room arrangement and haven’t settled for sure on having the crib in the middle of the room, but that’s where it is now. gub’s mom had this neato bedding made for us over at fingers & toes on etsy. we love it! she also got the baby these pink chucks… one of ryan’s favorite shower gifts so far!

we managed to make a few decisions as far as hanging artwork on the walls and we’re very close to selecting the rug. gub still has plans to make a mobile for over the crib. but we’re almost done… with four weeks until the due date!

– flor store –

the new flor store on the westside is great! i just happened to walk by it today and decided to pop in. little did i know it was their opening day, which was totally random. the inside of the store looked awesome and they had tile samples spilling out onto the sidewalk!

they are right next to the west egg cafe, which is amazing!

– airport car rentals –

the new car rental facility at the atlanta airport is a really cool building! it’s probably been open for a while now, but i just went there for the first time recently. there is a lot of reflective glass and greenspace and the top floor offers access to the atl skytrain, which goes to the airport and convention center.

– nursery transformation: week nine –

we accomplished several things on our list this weekend… we finally made the roman shade for the nursery window as well as a cushioned seat cover for the built in bench. both were made from this cute fabric we purchased a while ago from whipstitch, an amazing fabric store here in town. we’ve included some step by step photos below. both projects turned out great!

we also received a rocking chair as a gift from gub’s mom this week, which resulted in re-arranging everything in the room once again. and we hung up a few pieces of artwork. slowly but surely, it’s coming together…

– nursery transformation: week eight –

we finished installing our shelves and started filling them with the treasures we have collected and received as gifts. our friend kristen hosted an amazing baby shower for us this past weekend at her shop treehouse kid & craft in athens. she has the most beautiful things in her store and our friends and family showered us with lots of wonderful goodies for the baby!

we are playing around with placement of things in this tiny room and we’ve moved the crib so that it sits on a diagonal, coming out from the corner… can’t decide if we like it this way yet or not. we still have a rocking chair on the way that needs to fit in here as well.

next on the to do list:
select and purchase a rug
make a cover for the seat cushion
make the roman shade for the window
make a mobile for over the crib

– nursery transformation: week seven –

we had big ambitions for this weekend, but things went a bit slower than we had hoped… it always seems to work that way.

anyway, we did manage to tackle the shelves. ryan installed them several years ago, but the paint on the brackets needed to be touched up and they hadn’t ever been sanded or finished. so, that’s what we worked on… here are some “in progress” shots. they are still drying, so installation shots are forthcoming.

– TOMS shoes –

after talking about it for ages, we finally bought ourselves pairs of TOMS shoes! we were impressed with their ambitious cause and kept hearing how comfortable they were, so we couldn’t resist. abbadaba’s in little 5 points had a huge selection. gub grabbed sweet red ones and i found some blue corduroy ones!

in case you haven’t heard of TOMS before, they started a one for one movement where they donate a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair they sell. so you get a pretty cool pair of shoes and feel good knowing a child in need is also getting a pair of shoes. TOMS also requires that their “factories operate under sound labor conditions, pay fair wages and follow local labor standards.” sweet deal! the shoes also come in recyclable cardboard boxes with a sticker and flag to help promote their cause.

read more about the TOMS movement here.

– rainbow apple sign –

i recently found myself at the home depot in kennesaw, ga and spotted this amazing old rainbow apple sign! i’m not sure if there was once an apple store here or maybe just a computer shop, but the vintage sign is really awesome. i’m impressed and a little surprised the sign is still standing, way to go kennesaw! currently there is a chiropractor and hair salon in the shopping center. i’m sure they could care less about the cool sign towering above.

– giant construction barricade –

check out this great oversized construction barricade! it’s the entrance sign to the bo phillips co. on lawrenceville highway in tucker, ga. it’s the best of both worlds; a great roadside sign that is also ginormous! don’t you love oversized versions of everyday items?

ps…i saw my first firefly tonight, how exciting!

– nursery transformation: week six –

this was a particularly productive week, as we are rapidly approaching the due date with just nine weeks to go now. we said a sad goodbye to the green sectional sofa. hope it finds a happy new home via decatur estate. we selected a paint color and painted the nursery!!! special thanks to gub’s mom and stepdad who came in for the weekend to help make it all happen. the color is called ‘retiring blue’ and it’s perfect. seems more of a robin’s egg to us. very calming… we love it!

we also tackled a second kitchen project with the help of gub’s handy stepdad… update on the new kitchen bar and shelf coming soon…
