– godspeed you! black emperor –

it’s been a long time since i headed to athens on a work night for a concert, but the reunion of godspeed you! black emperor was hard to pass up. i’m definitely glad i made the trek too, the show was epic! godspeed played for well over two hours and covered all of the hits i was hoping to hear. getting to see both songs from the slow riot for new zerø kanada ep was a huge highlight! that came out after i saw them play the last time, which was 1998, so i was thrilled to see the entire ep live. plus they sounded amazing at the 40 watt!!! my ears were ringing even with earplugs.

godspeed used a bunch of old film projectors during their show to play looping videos on a backdrop. the guy in charge kept various film strips thrown over his shoulder that he switched out on the projectors. the layered films went well with the music and added to the whole experience.

i’m glad i made the drive to athens for this amazing concert! i have great memories of seeing godspeed you! black emperor, but they definitely exceeded my high expectations.

– corn dog font –

we have a fun collection of paper food packaging from various fairs and diners. check out this amazing corn dog wrapper! we love the font made out of pieces of wood. i think it came from corndogorama, the annual music and corn dog festival in east atlanta.

– almost real –

i recently found myself at the bass pro shop up in gwinnett. they had some pretty hilarious dioramas, you’d think you were at the fernbank museum. they definitely wanted you to feel like you were out in the wilderness instead of a suburban mall.

i saw some sweet views of midtown atlanta last night from the rooftop of the windsor building! it was freezing and windy however.

– west egg cafe –

i recently went inside the west egg cafe for the first time and loved it! i’ve had their food before, but never had the pleasure of going to the actual restaurant. the interior was decked out with old classroom desks, science tables, a photobooth and even a card catalogue where you found the coffee sweeteners! i really liked their school/industrial design and thought it worked well in the space. i started to take a few photos and realized they had some nice postcards, so check out their great photos!

if you’ve never been to west egg cafe, their food is amazing! they feature an eclectic mix of tasty southern delights, although i’ve only had their lunch. i’ve tried their fried green tomato blt and fried egg sandwich, both of which i would totally recommend. they have another sandwich called the redneck cuban, that comes with sweet tea basted turkey breast, jack cheese, cole slaw, coca-cola barbecue sauce, grilled on white. crazy!

west egg cafe also has a bakery (home to their famous cupcakes), a full coffee bar (serving locally-roasted batdorf & bronson coffee), and various beers on draft. you can’t go wrong with those options!

check out their breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner menu.

– dudley’s food & spirits –

gub and i always get a kick out of the dudley’s food & spirits sign off i20 near the stone crest mall. it’s totally falling apart and features these hilarious hamburger and bartender graphics. gub used to work in madison, ga, so we would drive by dudley’s quite a bit. we have yet to actually go to the restaurant though.

– under the bridge downtown –

have you ever noticed the murals under the train tracks on ralph mcgill blvd near freedom pkwy? one side of the street is more graffiti-style and the other side has these cool bicyclists. the bicyclists side also has a beltline of atlanta logo, so it’s somehow affiliated with the atlanta beltline.

– ryan

UPDATE: these two murals are part of the art on the atlanta beltline campaign’s permanent collection. the bicyclist is by loss prevention collective and the abstract is by hence.
