– elf market –

the east lake farmers market is up and running again on saturdays from 9am to 1pm. it’s open through october and can be found at the corner of 2nd avenue and hosea williams drive in the east lake/kirkwood area. the market features lots of local farmers selling fruit, vegetables, eggs, salsas and all sorts of other stuff.

with tomato season finally upon us, we picked up some beautiful heirloom tomatoes from ora farms on our last trip to the market. we grabbed an early girl and an orange blossom. check out our july 4th blog post for a great tomato pie recipe we used with these wonderful tomatoes!

we also grabbed a couple of lemon cucumbers, which we had never tried before. these were quite interesting. the inside was slightly sweeter than normal cucumbers with a little softer texture, but the outside texture was very course and bumpy with small black seeds and they were the size of lemons. they were odd, but worth trying.

this saturday is the 2nd annual peachapalooza at the east lake farmers market. it’s a juried cooking competition celebrating all things peach! stop by to sample some amazing peach creations!

– my first drive-in –

clementine went on her first drive-in adventure last weekend! we took her to the starlight six, which is one of our favorite places to go in atlanta. we figured a drive-in theater was the perfect movie atmosphere for a newborn. if she started to fuss, we could just head into our car and close the windows.

so we packed our cooler and enjoyed a nice summer family outing! we ended up seeing bridesmaids, which was hilarious. hopefully we can do this a few more times before clem gets too restless for such outings.

– hyatt regency –

i found myself on another work project at the hyatt regency in downtown atlanta and was once again impressed with the architecture of john portman. the open design of this hotels interior and its elevator system is quite amazing, especially knowing it’s open for over 44 years. the hotel also offers some great views of the downtown skyline.

if you’ve never explored any of john portman’s buildings in atlanta, you really should; they are all truly breathtaking! we are fortunate to have so many of his designs in our downtown. be sure to check out our previous posts on his suntrust building, americasmart and connecting hallways.

atlanta is often overlooked for its architecture, but it really does have a ton of beautiful buildings!

– amazing short rib –

i felt compelled to write about the amazing meal i recently ate. if you are craving a deliciously moist and tender beef short rib, swing on over to the newly renovated twenty-two storys restaurant in the atrium of the downtown hyatt regency. the short rib was served on top of these short noodles that were covered in a beef glaze. the meat fell right off the bone and was soo tasty. i would say it was the best short rib i’ve ever had!

twenty-two storys also featured a lot of great beers on tap, including a ton of local brews, as well as soups and foods integrating these beers. i was quite impressed!

– flor store –

the new flor store on the westside is great! i just happened to walk by it today and decided to pop in. little did i know it was their opening day, which was totally random. the inside of the store looked awesome and they had tile samples spilling out onto the sidewalk!

they are right next to the west egg cafe, which is amazing!

– airport car rentals –

the new car rental facility at the atlanta airport is a really cool building! it’s probably been open for a while now, but i just went there for the first time recently. there is a lot of reflective glass and greenspace and the top floor offers access to the atl skytrain, which goes to the airport and convention center.

– record store day fun –

i had a blast at record store day 2011! i went to decatur cd, which worked out perfectly. they had all of the records i was looking for and lacked the long lines i would have dealt with at criminal records, where i went last year. there were live bands, free beer, community q bbq, king of pops, contests and a ton of cool vinyl to be had.

i heart record store day!

i ended up grabbing architecture in helsikiplaces like this on pink vinyl and an of montreal 12″ from polyvinyl records, as well as a new franz ferdinand covers 12″ on orange vinyl from domino records.

i have to admit i’m a little disappointed that record store day is becoming so reissue heavy though. here’s to more new releases on future record store days!
