– all the buildings in new york –

i recently discovered this great blog by australian illustrator james gulliver hancock. hancock set out on the ambitious goal of hand-drawing every building in new york in 2010. he still has a lot of buildings to go, however you can now purchase a book featuring every drawing he’s done so far.

here is a new york times interview with james from a few months ago.

– athicards: a creative deck of athens art –

athica, the athens institute for contemporary art, recently produced athicards, a creative deck of athens art. the project was really cool, they had 54 athens artists create the front of a playing card, resulting in a full deck of playing cards. the original artwork was on display from saturday, may 25th through sunday, june 23rd at the athica gallery and the decks were available for purchase. in case you missed the exhibit, you can order a set of the the cards from their website.

– living walls: ripo & remed –

on the same building as yesterdays collaborative mural you will find this 2010 living walls piece. it was painted by street artists ripo from barcelona, spain & remed from paris, france.

remed also painted the huge 11-story mural we recently covered, head there to see more of his artwork. if you would like to see more of ripo’s murals, head here, here & here or for an interview head here.

– living walls: swampy & gaia & greg mike –

you will find this collaborative 2010 living walls mural along dekalb avenue on the side of studio nine hundred. we drive on dekalb quite a bit, so this was one of the first murals that brought our attention to the non-profit. the walls were painted by street artists swampy (oakland, ca), gaia (baltimore, md) & greg mike (atlanta).

gaia & greg mike have painted numerous other living walls murals and swampy also painted a collaborative mural with doodles near the eyedrum during the 2010 campaign, which is also great!

– living walls: michi meko –

this living walls piece from 2010 went up on the front of an apartment complex on edgewood avenue. it’s by atlanta-based artist michi meko and is fairly close to a bunch of other old fourth ward living walls murals along edgewood ave.

michi meko has a pretty diverse portfolio of fine art and street art, so be sure to visit his website or you can read interviews here and here.

here is one of my favorite living walls murals from 2010. the painting is by oakland-based street artist doodles and is large and in charge! it’s fairly close to our house on the side of jai shanti yoga and was actually one of the first living walls murals we were aware of.

doodles also painted a collaborative mural with swampy near eyedrum during the 2010 campaign, which is also great! visit here, here or here to see more of doodles artwork or visit here to purchase some of his original pieces.

– living walls: eyedrum –

in celebration of the 2012 living walls conference, i’m going to post some of the murals that kicked off the first conference back in 2010. these are some of the earliest living walls conference murals that went up around eyedrum. the artists included jason kofke (atlanta), greg mike (atlanta), doodles (oakland), swampy (oakland), faber (lima, peru) & others.

i really like faber mural and the doodles/swampy collaborative piece. the jason kofke painting also looks familiar, the airplanes are reminiscent of his decatur mural we wrote about a few months ago.

many of these artists have done other murals for living walls, so be sure to check out our previous coverage to see more of their work.

more to follow!

– living walls conference 2012 –

the 2012 living walls conference is upon us! this year will be the world’s first all female street art conference. it features 26 female artists who are currently painting new murals all over the city!

the five-day conference includes film screenings, lectures, a huge block party & map release (which shows you where all the new murals are), and even a bike tour of the walls. all of which are free and open to the public! for a full schedule of events, head here.

at least two of the new pieces are in kirkwood, which is exciting! one is already finished in downtown kirkwood across from le petit marché where the marco steno mural used to be. here is a video with some making-of footage.

the other one is under the bridges at rocky ford & college/dekalb. there were 3 or 4 female artists prepping this wall yesterday, so i bet they will be painting it over the next day or two if you want to see out a work in progress!

be sure to check out the living walls vimeo page for daily video updates from this years conference!

– living walls: feral child & russia –

the last of the downtown living walls murals in atlanta is a collaborative wall by oakland-based street artist feral child and atlanta-based russia. it’s actually not too far from the alligator or underground atlanta murals if you want to go check a bunch out.

i really like feral child’s style and use of color. his part of the wall is by far the best! i like how his design wraps around the front of the building as well. some of his work can be a little too psychedelic for my taste, but all in all i dig it. to see more of his work, head here, here & here. i couldn’t find much information on russia, but i wasn’t the biggest fan of his section of the wall either.

be sure to check out our previous coverage of living walls atlanta and also a great google map of the 2011 living walls murals.
